Ocean Freight News - SE Asia to Australia Rate Increase (December 2017)

OOCL has announced they intend to apply a General Rate Increase (GRI) for South East Asia to Australia trade effective from 1st December 2017.

OOCL commented that the current prices are unable to cover basic operating costs. They further announced a rate restoration program for this trade lane. Ocean freight rates for traffic from Southeast Asia, South Asia, Indian-Sub continental and Middle-East to Australia will experience the following planned increases:

  • Per 20: USD 50
  • Per 40: USD 100

This will apply to freight forwarders with both dry and refrigerated cargo. The rates will be applied on the basis of actual departure date in the bill of lading from 1st December. This increase will apply on top of existing ongoing market rates and will be subject to accessorial surcharges applicable at the time of shipment.

Whale will continue to monitor ocean freight rates and keep customers updated.
